1. Lohagad, Near Lonavala
A favorite among the modern day marathas – the trekkers.The fort has always attracted hordes of tourists across Mumbai and Pune.Usually seen as a beginners trek. During the monsoon, the top of the fort is covered with mist and clouds and becomes particularly wet with growing moss.
The roads and trails leading to the hill are quite slippery at this time of the year and precautions are necessary to be taken while venturing the routes.
2. Tikona Trek, Near Kamshet
Tikona fort is a hill fort located near Kamshet [Maval region] in Maharashtra. Height from sea level is 3500 feet. Its twin fort is called Tung. It takes 1 1/2 hours to reach to the top of the fort. Some parts are almost vertical as the fort is triangular in shape. A wonderful place to explore for a day trip and back.
3. Rajmachi Trek, Near Lonavala
Rajmachi can be reached by 2 ways, the tough route is from Kondivade village near Karjat and it involves climb-up of about 2000 feet. The other route is from Lonavala, which is almost a plain walk of about 15 km. In rainy season this region is all the more beautiful with silvery water falls, streams and lust green forests and meadows.
4. Korigad Trek, Near Lonavala
Korigad is a famous hill fort in Lonavala.The main attractions at Korigad are the two caves and two large ponds. A few temples [Korlaidevi temple and Ganesh temple] on the fort which have some good structure and carvings. It is advised to start early in the morning like by 7 inorder to enjoy the solitudes, stormy winds and Fog of the peak. Its magic up there.
5. Mahuli Fort Trek, Near Asangaon, Shahpur
This trail is closest to Mumbai and is very scenic. You'll find plenty of waterfalls and streams on your walk along. Its a perfect place to get away from the city quickly. Also the drive to the destination is mind bogling, a scene you can never emit out of your mind.
